I was wondering if there are any good books on owning and managing a social networking website. I have found it difficult to prepare for the challenges of managing a website. We recently hired a consulting/software development company that has taken care of everything from design and development to analyzing, testing, and hosting. However, I would like to know everything that they know!
Is there anything I can study to learn the ins and outs of owning and operating a social networking website?

this is a decent guide to start with. (decent: not spectacular)

I have about 2,000 subscribers for my youtube videos, and someone I know mentioned something about using Google Adsense on youtube, how does this all work and what do I have to do to get started?
The only way to use Google Adsense with youtube is to become a youtube partner. Go to youtube.com and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on Adsense.

I am starting to use pay per click adverting how much money should i use and which ones (yahoo, google any other)
Or are there any other ways to advertise my website
Also which sites should i use to put ads on my site
The BEST pay per click programs is Google Adwords http://www.open-online-store.com because it is easy to use, fast, has the widest reach. You don’t have to spend a fortune on it — in fact you can budget for $20 a day and be very strategic in your selection of keywords. Instead of paying for example for a broad keyword that is often very expensive such as "diamonds" , use cheaper keywords that are more specific "1 karat yellow diamond ring"

I decided the other day that I was tired of MySpace and all the other just general ‘keep in touch with my friends’ social networking type sites out there… Being a freelance (part time) web builder I thought it might be a fun project to set up one of my own, so I did… I just launched it today – and I’m the only member so far
it can be found here: http://www.shouldertap.net
I’m curious if anyone has any ideas about how to get people to go there? I’ve always been pretty good at site planning and the visual part, but I totally suck at marketing.
Oh, fyi, I’m not trying to make money from it or anything, no advertisements or anything, would just would like to see a few people get a kick out of this thing..
Any suggestions?
What is different about your site?
Are there different features, different guidelines?
If you read the book "The tipping point" about how a trend takes off, there are a group of people that makes it happen. Maybe market it to a certain "hip" group of people that define your image. Perhaps there is a small college that you could plaster with info about it, see if it takes off on the college.
My 0.02, though, would be to market it as the "networking site for grownups" so you don’t have that idiotic teens doing skanky poses and such. (Can you tell I’m a grownup? I have too much dignity to haunt MySpace)

I doing SEO for a large site (20+ pages). What are the best practices in regards to the sub-pages of the site? Should I put keywords for sub-pages, and if yes how similar can they be to my home page keywords? What about description and page title, how long should those be and how similar to the home page? Is there anything else that can be done for SEO optimization?
I recommend that you go to http://www.websitegrader.com to check details like title length, meta tags…
It doesn’t really matter what keywords you use for subpages as long as your page is optimized for them and your content is a match.
As long as you build backlinks to your site and subpages, you’l be going in the right direction!
